SCOMI EYEING US$10 BLN WORTH OF MONORAIL PROJECTS GLOBALLY
KUALA LUMPUR, June 3 (Bernama) -- The Scomi Group plans to tender for US$10
billion worth of monorail projects globally.
Announcing this, Scomi International President Kanesan Veluppillai said
among the projects were in India, Brazil and Middle East.
Currently, the global market for monorail projects stood at about US$30
billion, he said, adding that India had the largest amount of projects worth
approximately US$15 billion.
This is followed by Brazil with about US$10 billion worth of projects, he
told reporters on the sidelines of the Monorailex 2010 conference here Thursday.
"Globally, we have a lot of enquiries," Veluppillai said, adding that there
were a few tenders for monorail jobs to be opened in India this year.
On the local front, he said the company was very keen to participate in any
extension of monorail line projects.
Meanwhile, International Monorail Association Secretary Jaap H. Ketel
said there were tremendous opportunities for monorail projects in Asia, Middle
East and South America amid their growing population and increased traffic
congestion.
