Fire ravages raw materials store in capital
SANA'A, June 05 (Saba) - Firefighters
brought under control Friday a major fire that ravaged a plastic raw materials store
in Yemen's
capital of Sana'a. No casualties were reported and other losses were estimated at YR
60 million. The cause of the fire has not been clear yet. However, the owner of the
store who also owns a shoe factory told police that he received days ago a telephone
call from a shopkeeper in the area telling him that cleanliness workers had stolen
some
materials from the store, according to some media outlets. Jalal Muhammad Al-Marmadi
also told police that the shopkeeper had warned him they should not be blamed if
something
bad happened to the store. Al-Marmadi did not hire someone to guard the materials he
had planned to use at his factory, according to police. Eight fire trucks were
dispatched
to tackle the fire in the Sawan district from which thick black smoke billowed into
the air and was seen from the fringes of Sana'a. FR
