Cantex plans to expand exploration for minerals in Amran

AMRAN, June 06 (Saba) -
After arrival of its survey plane on Sunday, the Canadian Cantex Company is planning
to expand
survey operations and exploration for minerals in the province of Amran.
In a meeting held in Suwar district of Amran and attended by officials from the
Yemeni Geological Survey and Mineral Resources Board (GSMRB) and the Canadian
company, the
board's Chairman Ismail al-Ganad affirmed the importance of investing in the
minerals field as one of the most important tributaries of the national economy.
The investment in the minerals field provides many job opportunities for the local
labor as well as the improvement of the infrastructure projects in the exploration
areas
and the development of the local communities, al-Ganad pointed out.
For his part, Director of Sewar district Abdul Aziz Shalan confirmed the keenness
of Suwar's sons to facilitate the company's functions in the implementation of
survey operations.
Cantex has been working in Yemen continuously since 1996.
In November 2008, Cantex signed a letter agreement with the Vale International SA
(Vale), one of the biggest mining companies in the world, to implement explorative
operations
for cooper and nickel in Suwar area, Amran province.
The "Vale" company's entering into Yemen is an important factor in attracting and
encouraging foreign firms to invest in mining.
