FRANCE GRANTS YEMEN € 37.5 MLN FOR RURAL ELECTRICITY PROJECT



SANA'A, June 09 (Saba) - France granted on Wednesday Yemen € 37.5
million to finance rural electricity project implemented with a
joint finance by Yemen and a number of donors.

The grant's agreement stipulates that the French Agency for
Development (AFD) is to provide the foresaid amount to contribute to
finance an electricity distribution network, strengthen the
electricity generating capacity in rural regions as well as
supporting capacity building.

After signing the agreement by Minister of Planning and
International Cooperation Abdul-Karim al-Arhabi and the AFD Country
Director Christian Flamand, al-Arhabi hailed the AFD contribution in
propping up the development process in Yemen.

He also noted that the rural electricity project would enhance the
government's efforts aiming to promote the development in rural
communities and to alleviate poverty.
