Land mine victims urgently need medical treatment, SEYAJ says

SANA'A, June 10
(Saba)- SEYAJ for Children Protection has said that victims of land mines and
explosives, particularly
women and children living in the northwestern province of Saada, lack of access to
medical care.
"There is horrendous apathy toward the war-affected children and women in Saada,
victims of land mines and explosives. These victims are neglected and lack of
access to
medical care, even in the minimum standard by provided by hospitals and health
centers", the director of SEYAJ Ahmed al-Qurashi said.
"The injured children and women had been expelled from the hospitals. The
mattresses were pulled from beneath them and they were asked for money for their
stay although
they received no medicines. The shrapnel was not extracted from their bodies,
despite their injuries were received more than two months in most cases".
SEYAJ revealed that 33 children were killed or wounded due to land mines and
explosives since the beginning of 2010.
Ten were killed, including 7 deaths in Saada, in the far north of Yemen, and three
who died in Shabwa. Of the 23 children seriously wounded including loss of limbs,
16 were
injured in Saada and seven in the provinces of al-Dalea, Shabwa and Hajjah.
