H1N1 UNDER CONTROL, SAYS HEALTH MINISTER
KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 (Bernama) -- The Influenza A(H1N1) outbreak in the country
is under control and it is needless for the people to be worried, Health
Minister Liow Tiong Lai said Thursday.
Nevertheless, he advised people in the risk groups to take the H1N1 vaccine
innoculations available at government and private clinics.
Liow spoke to reporters after the opening of a health exhibition on oral hygiene
and dental treatment by Rosmah Mansor, wife of the prime minister.
The one-day exhibition is organised by the Health Ministry, the Malaysian Dental
Association and the dental division of the Defence Ministry.
In his speech, Liow said the oral health of Malaysians had improved
over the years.
"Today, more than 40 per cent of our 16-year-old school children have never
experienced dental caries in their permanent dentition as compared to the early
1970's when only about 15 per cent were free of the problem," he said.
He hoped that dental professionals and the dental industry could work
hand-in-hand with the government to empower young Malaysians to be more
responsible for their own health.
