Yemen calls for eradicating piracy phenomenon off Somalia

NEW YORK, June 12 (Saba)- The Republic of Yemen affirmed on Saturday that the piracy phenomenon in the regional waters off Somalia and the international waters of the Gulf of Aden has become a real threat against security and safety of marine navigation.

In Yemen's speech delivered by the permanent representative of Yemen to the United
Nations Abdullah al-Saadi at the 6th meeting of the Communication Group for
Combating
Piracy offshore Somalia in New York, Yemen re-condemned all kinds of piracy acts and
armed robbery as they threat anyone comes in the way.
Al-Saadi emphasized that maritime piracy acts in the international waters off
Somalia are repercussions of the deteriorating political situations and the
instability in
Somalia along the past two decades.
He reviewed efforts of Yemen represented by the Coast Guards Authority to protect
the international waters and secure marine navigation routes, in addition to
successes
in thwarting sea piracy attempts.
He also expressed strong discontent for the killing of a number of Yemeni fishermen
in the Gulf of Aden due to shooting of the marine forces in the international
waters
off Somalia, stressing the importance to contain this problem and find out suitable
solutions to evade any such incidents.
