Lao guides improve quality service for Japanese tourists

VIENTIANE ,11 JUNE (KPL) - The Lao National Tourism Administration in cooperation with the ASEAN-Japan Centre held a workshop on quality service for Japanese tourists in Vientiane Capital from 9 to 11June.
The training was chaired by Deputy President of the Lao National Tourism Administration, Mr. Soukkaseum Phothisane.
The trainees learned about culture, custom and livelihood of Japanese people and also discussed how to attract more Japanese tourists to visit Laos.
According to a report of the Lao National Tourism Administration about Japanese tourists visiting Laos, the figure of Japanese tourists’ arrival in 2003 was 17,766, 20,319 in 2004, 22,601 in 2005, 23,147 in 2006, 29,770 in 2007, 31,569 in 2008 and 28,081 last year.
Mr. Soukkaseum has called on Lao tourist service and companies to improve their service for Japanese tourists since the number of Japanese tourists is expected to increase year on year. This is the 3rd training course held since 2007.
The Lao National Tourism Administration has so far paid attention to improve human resource development such guides and officials, and tourist sites.
The curriculum for improving Lao human resource development has been formed based on ASEAN standard in preparation for the Lao
tourism year in 2012.
