CREATIVE MULTIMEDIA HAS HUGE POTENTIAL, SAYS M'SIAN DPM
CYBERJAYA (Malaysia), June 14 (Bernama) -- Creative multimedia is an area which has huge potential to be explored in Malaysia, said Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
He said: "We need and could produce animation content of high quality which
is on par with global standards.
"I am sure this MaC3 Rendering Facility will play a pivotal role in the
further development of this industry," he said at the official launch of the
MaC3 Cloud Rendering Farm, here Monday.
The MaC3 Rendering Farm is part of the MSC Malaysia Animation and Creative
Content Centre or MaC3, a strategic division established by Multimedia
Development Corporation (MDeC) with a mandate to drive the development of the
nation's digital creative industry.
Muhyiddin said Malaysia's animation and creative content future depended on
its ability to find new creative growth drivers and create a more
market-friendly environment that was conducive to innovation and investment.
He said digital entrepreneurs from now on should adopt a more focused and
coordinated effort to identify their comparative advantage in this global
animation industry.
The Deputy Prime Minister said Malaysian creative content providers must
carve a niche on the global production map by identifying the appropriate
opportunities in the creative content value chain.
He also said Malaysian animators had to build an ecosystem that nurtured
innovation and fostered creativity.
With targeted animation related revenues of RM1.1 billion and targeted
exports of RM660 million (US$200 million) by 2012, Muhyiddin said MaC3 goals
were very high and lofty.
"2012 is not that far away and whilst I take cognisance that it is not an
easy task to predict the ever evolving animation market trends, I believe
Malaysia is on the right track.
"However, we should not just play 'catch up' all the time. We need to make
that quantum leap soon and be ahead of the creative content industry," he said.
