MALAYSIA TO HOST ASEAN PETANQUE CHAMPIONSHIP
KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 (Bernama) -- Malaysia which will host the Asean
Petanque Championship in November will use the event to expose the players to
international competition.
Malaysian Petanque Federation secretary Shaari Shamsudin said the
championship would be participated by Asean countries including Brunei,
Thailand, Vietnam and Laos.
"We will send 16 players comprising eight men and eight women to the
championship for exposure since petanque will not feature at Guangzhou Asian
Games and New Delhi Commonwealth Games," he told Bernama here Wednesday.
Malaysia returned from Laos SEA Games last year with only a bronze medal
from the men's pair of Shaari Hassan and Mohd Faiza Mohamad.
Shaari said the championship venue had yet to be determined but it might be
held at Taman Keramat Sports Complex.
"We are not setting any target since the Thais and Cambodians have a much
better reputation than us, he added.
