BILLS ON CONSUMER GOODS TAX TO BE SUBMITTED

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The Wednesday's cabinet meeting discussed and backed in principle a draft amendment to the law on customs tariff and tax, and a draft parliamentary resolution on alteration of a draft appendix of resolution. These drafts will be submitted to the State Great Khural reflecting proposals of governmental members.
As known, a majority of foodstaffs consumed by the Mongolian population are meat, flour, milk, rice and sugar. The country fully provides its population with meat and milk. Meanwhile, 44 per cent of flour and 100 per cent of rice, sugar and vegetable oil are imported. Fluctuations in prices of these goods gave negatively affect the population's purchasing capacity.
If these draft amendments are approved, the Goverment will have a legal environment for altering a level of customs tariff of these foodstaffs--if necessary--in accordance with a parliamentary permission. Other adavantages are that a balance between demand and supply will be ensured, prices will be stabilized, financial capacity of flour and wheat producers will be improved bringing an increase in productions. It is considered that a growth of the agricultural production and sale will increase job places and income to the state budget from citizens and entities.
The draft laws have been worked out due to a necessity to regulate the production of wheat and flour and the import of flour with a flexible policy of customs tax.
