CONFERENCE TO HELP ALIGN COMPLIANCE PROGRAMMES WITH INTERNATIONAL PRACTICES

KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 (Bernama) -- The International Conference on Financial
Crime and Terrorism Financing will help some 500 participants align their
current Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT)
compliance programmes in line with international best practices.

Chairman of Compliance Officers' Networking Group (CONG) V. Maslamani said
the two-day conference, from July 19, would be jointly organised by the group,
the Institute of Bankers Malaysia, Asian Institute of Finance (AIF) and
Malaysian Insurance Institute (MII).

CONG represents compliance professionals in Malayia's banking industry.

"The tougher enforcement regime of AML/CFT in many countries has resulted in
penalties for violation and non-compliance," he said during a media briefing
here today.

Maslamani said increasing international presence of Malaysian financial
institutions would provide a rush to invest significantly in AML/CFT compliance
programmes to be on par with the international best practices.
