Indian Missions closely following Nitin Garg murder case
New Delhi, Jun 17 (PTI) India Thursday said its Mission
in Canberra and the Consulate General in Melbourne are closely
following developments after the arrest of a teenage boy in
connection with the murder of Indian student Nitin Garg, who
was stabbed to death in January this year.
The Victorian State Government authorities have informed
the Consulate General of India, Melbourne, that a 15-year-old
boy was arrested today, by the Victorian Police, in relation
to the death of the late Nitin Garg, an External Affairs
Ministry release said.
It said that he (the suspect) was "expected to be charged
with one count of murder and would be produced in the
Children's Court today".
The murder of Garg on January 2, 2010, came in the midst
of a series of attacks on Indians in Australia that shocked
Indians back home.
The ministry said "Our Mission in Canberra and the
Consulate General in Melbourne are closely following the
developments." PTI PYK
