India-China martial arts meet at famed Shaolin temple

Beijing, Jun 21 (PTI) For the first time, martial arts
masters from India and China have performed together at the
famed Shaolin Temple, considered the birth place of Chinese
Kungfu, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic
relations between the two Asian giants.
Twelve Indian masters from the Delhi-based Nithya
Chaithanya Kalari Indian martial arts training centre
performed Kalaripayattu on the same stage where monks of the
Shaolin Temple displayed Kungfu on Monday.
"Shaolin Kungfu is the father of Chinese martial arts
and Kalari is mother of Indian martial arts," said Murugan
Gurakal, chief instructor of the Kalari group.
Murugan Gurakal, who founded the Nithya Chaithanya
Kalari in 1993, said he hoped his countrymen could learn a lot
from Shaolin Kungfu, Xinhua news agency reported from
Zhengzhou City in central China's Henan province.
Indian masters performed Kalari, or Kalarippayattu in
front of the abbot with techniques including long stick
fighting, knife fighting, sword, shield and flexible swords on
the platform, which attracted many tourists.
Also, Shaolin monks performed many types of Kungfu
including Tung Chi Gong, Er-zhi-zen and "Eighteen Weapons."
Shi Yanhao, a monk who performed Tiger Fist, said, "I
am happy to see the mysterious Indian martial arts. Their
performance was excellent and they were flexible in their body
techniques."
Founded in the 5th century, the Shaolin monastery is
long famous for its association with Chinese martial arts and
particularly with Shaolin Kung Fu. The Shaolin Monastery of
China founded by Indian monk Bodhi Dharma, where the Wu-shu
