MALAYSIAN HELD IN EGYPT

KUALA LUMPUR, June 22 (Bernama) -- A 41-year-old Malaysian was detained in
Egypt on June 13, Foreign Minister Anifah Aman said Monday.

Muhamad Zulkifli Mohamad Zakaria was held as he was about to board a flight
back to Malaysia at the Cairo International Airport, he said in a statement.

"Wisma Putra (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) received a report on June 13 from
the Malaysian embassy in Cairo on the detention of a 41-year-old Malaysian by
the name of Muhamad Zulkifli Mohamad Zakaria by the Egyptian authorities," he
said.

Anifah said Muhamad Zulkifli was still being held by the Egyptian
authorities and the Malaysian embassy in Cairo had made several consular
representations to the relevant authorities to obtain further information on the
detention.

"Wisma Putra and the Malaysian embassy in Egypt have urged the Egyptian
authorities to expedite investigation. If they do not have sufficient evidence
to prosecute Muhamad Zulkifli, Wisma Putra will ask the Egyptian government to
release him," he said.
