FRENCH PERFUME COMPANY KEEN TO SET UP A MANUFACTURING FACTORY LOCALLY
KUALA LUMPUR, June 22 (Bernama) -- French-based perfume company, Atelier des
Parfums, which plans to make Malaysia its global halal hub for perfumes and
cosmetics, is considering the establishment of a large scale manufacturing plant
here next year.
President and Chief Executive Officer Olivier R. Funel said Malaysia has
established high halal standards and was the best country, in the Muslim world,
for halal investments.
He said the company was keen to source potential partners to expand
their network locally.
"We are looking for some partners with halal certification to help us with
the manufacturing process.
"We need someone with bigger production facilities to undertake the
manufacturing as a sub-contractor and in the mid to long-term we may consider
developing our own large-scale factory," he told Bernama ahead of the 7th
Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS 2010) Tuesday.
Atelier Des Parfums, the first French producer of halal perfume, and
certified by the Department of Islamic Development, had established Atelier des
parfums Malaysia Sdn Bhd to mark its presence locally.
Currently, Atelier has a minimum capacity manufacturing facility in
Sri Damansara in the state of Selangor to cater for the local market.
Atelier, existing since 1936, has been producing perfume bases for major
international brands.
Funel said going forward, the company would consider transfering part of its
technology from France to Malaysia in line with its aim to help turn Malaysia
into a global halal hub for perfumes and cosmetics.
Elaborating further, Funel said Atelier's investment in Malaysia this year
portrayed the company's determination to accelerate its business network using
the country to further penetrate the global market, particularly among the
Organisation of the Islamic Conference countries.
"The first halal product to debut in the next three months will carry two
brands, including skin care products," he said, adding that the company was
looking for a wider distribution network.
Speaking about the competition from international brands, Funel was
confident the French brand would make its mark in the local market.
Atelier, based in Cagnes sur mer, France, will participate at the 7th
International Halal Showcase (MIHAS 2010), after a successful stint last year.
