MALAYSIA HOSTS CYBERSECURITY WORKSHOPS FOR OIC MEMBER COUNTRIES

KUALA LUMPUR, June 24, (Bernama) -- Malaysia is currently conducting the
second part of a series of cybersecurity workshops in Rabat in collaboration
with Morocco's Ministry of Industry, Trade and New Technologies and supported by
the Islamic Development Bank.

The workshop with the theme "Enhancing Capability for Better Security" is
for Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) member countries in the African
region.

In a statement here Thursday, CyberSecurity Malaysia said about 60
participants from 16 OIC member countries in the African region are attending
the workshop, which was officiated by Morocco's Minister of Industry, Trade and
New Technologies, Ahmed Reda Chami.

Other than panel discussions and hands-on training, the workshop features a
focus group discussion on potential projects to be conducted among the
OIC-Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) member countries in mitigating
cyberthreats.

The OIC-CERT workshops are designed to provide a platform for cybersecurity
professionals to interact, share common interests and exchange ideas on cyber
security matters, the statement said.

CyberSecurity Malaysia represents the country as OIC-CERT chair. It formed
OIC-CERT which currently has 18 OIC countries as members.

At the launch of the workshop Wednesday, CyberSecurity Malaysia's chief
executive officer Lt Col (Rtd) Husin Jazri said OIC-CERT provided a new platform
for the OIC member countries to exchange ideas and expertise.

"It also promotes joint research and development to deal with global
cyberthreats and foster good relationship among members," he said.

The first cybersecurity workshop was held in Egypt on June 8 and, 2010, for
15 OIC member countries in the Middle East.

Malaysia will host the final workshop for the Asian region on Oct 28, in
