MALAYSIA TO HOST UNITED NATIONS GLOBAL MODEL CONFERENCE IN AUGUST

KUALA LUMPUR, July 2 (Bernama) -- This year, Malaysia will host the United
Nations Global Model Conference from Aug 14 to 18 at the Putra World Trade
Centre, here.

Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Razali Ibrahim said this second
conference would see the participation of about 1,000 youths, aged between 18
and 24, from 71 countries including Malaysia.

"This is the biggest conference involving youths worldwide and will allow
them to interact and learn from each other," he told reporters at the parliament
lobby Thursday.

The conference is aimed an increasing awareness among the younger generation
on the role of the United Nations globally and at inspiring them to involve
themselves in international issues.

Razali said Malaysia had been allocated a quota of 50 participants, who
would be selected from candidates knowledgeable in world issues, are fluent in
English and possess charismatic leadership.
