Praising the "impressive" new airport, UPA Chairperson
Sonia Gandhi said quality is not something to be reserved for
prestigious projects but it should become part and parcel of
our design process for all "our public projects including
housing and other services".
"Providing rural and urban infrastructure efficiently
and at the same time achieving high standards must remain our
goal," she said.
The Congress president also praised the Delhi Metro
saying, that "it has demonstrated how the public sector can be
galvanised to excel and can be delivered on time."
With the Commonwealth Games round the corner, she said
that great demand will be placed not just for the airport but
also on the facilities of the city, its administration and its
people.
Speaking on the occasion, India's Civil Aviation
Minister Praful Patel said this new airport shows that India
has arrived on the international scene and by the next year,
35 non-metro airports would be upgraded by the Airport
Authority of India. PTI AJ
