INDIA-US US congratulates India for FATF membership;praises its efforts

New Delhi, Jul 3 (PTI) The US on Saturday congratulated
India on becoming the member of the Financial Action Task
Force, the global standard-setting body against money
laundering and financing of terrorism and said pursuit of
terror funds was a critical component of Indo-US
counter-terrorism efforts.
"We welcome India as a full member of the FATF, and we
look forward to working more closely with India on these
important issues," US Charge d'Affaires Steven J White said.
"Pursuit of terror finance is a critical component of our
broader counter-terrorism efforts, in which the United States
and India increasingly work together shoulder-to-shoulder,"
he said in a statement.
Last week, the FATF voted to admit India as its 34th
country member. Other members include Australia, Austria, the
UK, the US, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan and Russia.
Recognising India's efforts, White said it has "made
significant progress over the last several years in moving
toward an anti-money laundering and terrorist financing
(AML/CFT) regime that meets international standards, and has
committed itself to continue to improve its AML/CFT system."
