MALAYSIAN DPM LEADS M'SIAN DELEGATION TO D8 SUMMIT
KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin will attend the seventh Group of Eight (D8) summit of developing Islamic countries in Abuja, Nigeria, on Thursday.
Malaysia will hand over to Nigeria at the summit the chairmanship of D8
which it assumed in July 2008. The summit carries the theme "Enhancing
Investment Cooperation Among D8 Members".
The summit will, among other things, address challenges facing member
countries in trade, finance, agriculture, food security, energy and minerals,
transportation, industrial cooperation, and small and medium enterprises, said a
Wisma Putra (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) statement.
The summit is to be preceded by the 13th session of the D8 Council of
Ministers Monday at which Malaysia is represented by Deputy Foreign Minister
Senator A. Kohilan Pillay.
Several parallel meetings will take place at the summit, including that of
the D8 central bank governors and federation of chambers of commerce as well as
a business forum and trade exhibition.
The summit brings together the heads of state or government of Bangladesh,
Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey.
