33 AFGHAN TEACHERS SELECTED FOR TEACHING COURSE IN MALAYSIA

KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 (Bernama) -- Thirty-three teachers, including 11 women, from Afghanistan have been selected to attend a three month teaching course in Malaysia which starts Monday.

The course, carried out under the Malaysia-Australia Education programme for
Afghanistan (MAEPA), is being held at the Malaysian Teaching Institute,
International Language campus, at Lembah Pantai here.

Rector of the Institute of Teacher Education, Dr Haili Dolhan, said
the Afghan teachers were lecturers at teachers training institutions in
Afghanistan.

He said the course would be conducted in English, but would be translated
into the Afghan language.

He said during the duration of the course, participants would also be taken
to visit a school in Sabak Bernama, Selangor.

The visit is to enable the participants to have a closer look at the
teaching technique used by the teachers at the school, he told reporters after
the opening of MAEPA here Monday.

Also present at the function were Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia,
Miles Kupa and Afghanistan Ambassador to Malaysia Abdul Samad Samad.

Meanwhile, Kupa said the Australian government appreciated Malaysia's
involvement in the project and hoped the country's achievement in its education
system would help the Afghanistan education system.
