GOVT TO CLOSELY MONITOR 10TH MALAYSIA PLAN IMPLEMENTATION
PUTRAJAYA, July 6 (Bernama) -- To retain economic growth momentum, the government will ensure that all measures outlined in the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP) are implemented and closely monitored, said Najib Razak.
"There will be some projects involving government, private and GLCs
(government linked companies). These are key projects that provide stimulus and
enhance domestic demand," he said in his speech at the 2011 Budget Consultation
meet here Tuesday.
In case there is a possible slowdown in terms of external environment in the
second half of this year, "we must make sure the domestic demand is very high
and continues to be quite strong and robust in the country," he said.
Despite the uncertainty in the external sector, the Malaysian economy
remains resilient, he said.
The country's economy recovered strongly to register 10.1 per cent gross
domestic product growth in the first quarter, the highest since the first
quarter of 2000.
To sustain the growth momentum, the government has also identified 12 areas
of growth including the revitalisation of Greater Kuala Lumpur as National Key
Economic Areas (NKEAs) to enable the country to make a quantum leap in growth,
income and quality of life, he said.
"This will be achieved in an environment of prudent fiscal management and
macroeconomic stability," he said.
Touching on human capital development which will continue to be given utmost
priority, Najib said this was the time for all Malaysians abroad to return home
and contribute significantly, and be a part of the Malaysian dream.
"This great nation of ours, offers ample opportunity for all, irrespective
of race, religion and economic background."
Najib had recently announced the establishment of Talent Corp which will
scout, develop and retain the best minds in the country and attract global
talents as well as among the Malaysian diaspora.
