Sharjah artefacts to go on show in US horse museum
Sharjah, June 6, 2010 (WAM) - The Museums Department in Sharjah has lent two of its most prized possessions to the Kentucky Horse Park's International Museum of the Horse according to a report in "Gulf News."
The items — a golden bridle and a silver horse figure — were excavated in the emirate, and will appear in a short-term exhibition at the Kentucky museum in the US.
The artefacts have been on permanent display at the Sharjah Archaeology Museum.
The exhibition — A Gift from the Desert: the Art, History, and Culture of the Arabian Horse — is being held until October 15. Sharjah Museums Department director general Manal Ataya said: "All international museums take pride in lending their important collections as part of a learning exchange to the widest possible audience".
Cultural heritage
"The loan of the two artefacts from Sharjah to the international exhibition also strengthens the spotlight on the cultural heritage and rich archaeological history of the emirate." The items in the collection — consisting of 14 pieces made of iron, gold and copper alloy — date back to between 150 BC and 200 AD. – Gulf News
