MALAYSIA'S CENTRAL BANK GOVERNOR ACCORDED AWARD IN ISLAMIC FINANCE
KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 (Bernama) -- Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Dr Zeti
Akhtar Aziz was accorded "The Asset Industry Leadership Award in Islamic
Finance" at the annual Triple A Awards for Islamic Finance 2010.
The award was in recognition of her support for Islamic finance development
in Malaysia and emerging markets.
The Hong Kong-based publication "The Asset Publishing and Research Limited
(The Asset) recognised Dr Zeti for her success in building the most conducive
regulatory and macro-economic environment for Islamic finance that will ensure
sustainable growth for the industry, said the central bank in a statement
Tuesday.
Under Dr Zeti's leadership of the Islamic finance sector, Malaysia
solidified its position as one of the world's most important Islamic financial
hubs.
"In her 10 years in office as the central bank governor, Dr Zeti has proven
to be a tireless promoter of Islamic finance in Malaysia and abroad.
Her commitment to liberalisation makes her a powerful agent of change, a
prime mover in the accelerated internationalisation of Islamic finance," says
The Asset in its citation.
At the ceremony, Malaysia was also awarded the Islamic Finance Hub of the
Year. After a build-up that took decades, Malaysia has evolved into the most
dynamic Islamic finance hub in Asia-Pacific.
An indication of its success is that countries and jurisdictions across the
Pacific rim, in Europe and the Middle East are looking at the Malaysian examples
and initiatives for inspiration to jumpstart their own ambitions for Islamic
finance.
