PM supports Danang in major traffic projects

Danang (VNA)- Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has affirmed the Government would support major traffic projects such as expressway and airport for Danang city to develop its tourism potential.

The Government leader made the pledges while working with the central city's authorities on July 19 to review its first six months' socio-economic targets.

He said the city should better tap its advantages in tourism, deep-water port, international airport and rich human resources to attract large-scaled investments that bring in high added values but take up no massive land and are in harmony with environment.

"For immediate future, Danang should focus on tackling obstacles inindustrial production so as to boost exports, providing best available conditions for foreign investors and developing human resources with priority to be given to the training of technicians, entrepreneurs and managers," PM Dung said.

The municipal administration's six month report showed that that its GDP grew 9.32 percent year on year and exports upped to 399.5 million USD. The city licensed nine new foreign investment projects and another for additional investment with a combined capital of 743 million USD or almost 8 times over the same period last year. As a result, the city generated 17,880 new jobs and helped close to 2,200 families lift themselves out of povertylines.

In the afternoon, the Government leader was scheduled to inspect the construction site of the Dung Quat oil refinery and have a working session with the Quang Ngai provincial administration.--Enditem
