SINGAPORE ACCELERATES PLANS TO BECOME FRANCHISING HUB
SINGAPORE, July 12 (Bernama) -- The Franchising & Licensing Association of
Singapore (FLA) Monday launched a new award and programme to accelerate its
plans to make Singapore the franchising and licensing hub of Asia.
The "Franchise Star Achiever" Award, which is part of the annual FLA Award
2010, is to give due recognition to the city-based franchise companies which
have successfully developed a strong brand, and have established physical
network of outlets and vigorous expansion plans in the region.
Another key initiative in this growth direction is the setting up of a new
assistance programme, called "Franchise Assist", to provide help for local
franchise companies in market development and manpower training.
Commenting on the launch of the award and the programme, FLA Chairman Dr T
Chandroo said the franchising industry had grown strongly over the years and in
Singapore, it accounted for 18 per cent of retail sales.
The franchise concepts have grown from 80 in the 90s, to about 500 in
Singapore to date, and 80 per cent of the franchise brands have overseas
presence.
FLA has invited Singapore-based franchise companies to participate in the
award.
Nominations for the FLA Award 2010, which include "Franchisor of the Year",
"Promising Franchisor of the Year", "Franchisee of the Year", and "International
Franchisor of the Year", are now open to all local and international franchisors
and franchisees that are operating in Singapore.
Closing date will be Aug 16.
