THAI CONSUL IN KELANTAN TO PROMOTE PRODUCTS IN A FAIR NEXT WEEK
KOTA BAHARU (Malaysia), July 15 (Bernama) -- The Thailand Consulate in Kota
Baharu will hold a “Foods, Fruits and Favourite Fair” here, next week to promote
products of predominantly Muslim traders in Southern Thailand.
Kota Bharu is the state capital and Royal City of Kelantan, is positioned
in the north-east of Peninsular Malaysia. It is bordered by Narathiwat Province
of Thailand to the north.
The Royal Thai Consul-General in Kelantan, Surapon Petch-Vra announced that
the Thai Consulate-General office with the cooperation of the Southern Border
Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC) and local company Vininspire Innovation
Thai OTOP Sdn Bhd would be holding a “Foods, Fruits and Favourite Fair”
featuring Thai One Tambon One Product festival from July 21 to 25.
He said among other things the festival would feature genuine Thai
delicacies and handiwork to be held at the Cultural Center, here and Wakaf Che
Yeh.
"This festival is part of the Thai government’s efforts to help the
predominantly Muslim traders to enhance their economic standard.
"We will be bringing in 43 Thai Muslim traders from the southern provinces
to conduct business here and only halal food would be sold," he told reporters,
here Wednesday.
Surapon said Thai Muslims made up 2.5 million out of the 3.5 million
population in five southern provinces namely Yala, Narathiwat, Pattani, Songkhla
and Satun and it would be a yearly affair to foster good relationship between
Malaysia and Thailand.
