BANDUNG GAMES A PLATFORM TO FOSTER UNITY AMONG M'SIAN STUDENTS IN INDONESIA
KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 (Bernama) -- Some 6,000 Malaysian students pursuing
their studies in 17 Indonesian provinces will converge in Bandung for the
Bandung Games carnival from Oct 8-10.
Youth and Sports Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the carnival would
feature various sports including traditional sports, organised by Malaysian
students.
"The carnival will help foster unity among Malaysian students studying in
Indonesia," he told reporters here Wednesday.
Ahmad Shabery earlier took part in the sports carnival
held between the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Malaysia and Indonesia, headed
by its minister Dr Ardi Malaranggeng.
Among sports that featured in the carnival held at the National Sports
Complex in Bukit Jalil were badminton, tennis, netball and futsal.
Ahmad Shabery said among sports that would be held during the Bandung Games
are futsal, badminton, netball, volleyball, football and traditional games like
congkak, chess and five stones (batu seremban).
He added that Bandung would be the permanent venue for the Bandung Games to
be held every year.
Apart from Indonesia, Malaysian students pursuing their studies in other
countries are also known to organise similar games on their own, without seeking
funds from the ministry, he said.
"In Britain, there is the Nottingham Games to unite Malaysian students," he
said.
