Indian air traffic continues to rise



New Delhi, Jul 15 (PTI) Air traffic in India continued
to show a marked improvement since the financial downturn in
the past two years, with total passengers carried recording
about 135 lakh in the second quarter, compared with over 118
lakh in the first.
Jet Airways and its subsidiary JetLite together
garnered the largest chunk of passengers flying 35.28 lakh,
followed by Kingfisher at 28.42 lakh and Air India (Domestic)
23.69 lakh, official figures released on Thursday said.
Closely following them was no-frill carrier IndiGo at
21.48 lakh and SpiceJet with 17.57 lakh. While GoAir flew 7.88
lakh, Paramount carried 45,000 only, primarily due to lack of
aircraft in their fleet.
In June, the total domestic passengers carried by the
scheduled Indian airlines was 45.04 lakh, the figures showed.
Here again, Jet and JetLite combine flew about 12 lakh people.
In terms of percentage share of the carriers in the
second quarter this year, Jet-JetLite bagged 26.2 per cent,
Kingfisher 21.1, Air India (Domestic) 17.6, IndiGo 15.9,
SpiceJet 13, Paramount 0.3 and Go Air 5.8.
On the issue of how many seats were filled on an
average by the aircraft of these airlines, both no-frill
airlines, IndiGo and SpiceJet, topped the list registering
90.7 and 88.5 per cent respectively.
They were followed by Paramount with 86.8 per cent,
Kingfisher with 85.1, GoAir 84, JetLite 83.6, Jet 80.5 and Air
India 72.3, the figures showed.
In the data relating to the maximum number of
complaints lodged by passengers against these airlines showed
Jet Airways and JetLite topping the list with the maximum
number of complaints at 9.2 and 4 per 10,000 passenger in
June. The lowest number of complaints were received by Air
India at one against every 10,000 passengers.
In all, eight domestic airlines together received
1,617 complaints from passengers against their services in
June with an industry average of 3.7 complaints per 10,000
