SPORT-MEETING

Seeking a consolidated response to the plea from the BCCI
by July 25 the committee also fixed July 27 for its next
hearing in New Delhi.
The Committee also wanted to know from Abdi and Dhond
about the dates when Modi would be available in person to
depose before it but was told that at this stage the duo had
no instructions (from Modi) on this query and it would be
informed at the July 27 hearing.
The Committee decided that since Modi has been allowed to
be represented by his lawyers at the proceedings, the BCCI
should also be allowed to be represented by its lawyer.
"Since we are allowing Mr Modi to be represented by a
laywer, it would be fair and proper to permit BCCI also to be
represented through their lawyer and its authorised
representative in the same manner as Mr Modi has been
permitted," as per the minutes of the meeting.
Pointing out that Modi had said in his letter to the
panel that he was out of the country on account of reasons
mentioned in the letter and that he will represented by Abdi
along with other lawyers, the Committee has spelt out in its
minutes that representation through lawyers before the
Disciplinary Committee "has not been allowed."
"This is an enquiry under the BCCI's Memorandum, Rules
and Regulations. Ordinarily, the BCCI has in the past required
persons against whom the enquiry is conducted to be in person.
Representation through lawyers before the disciplinary
committee has not been allowed," the minutes stated. PTI
