Swedish company to plant industrial trees in Laos

VIENTIANE 16 JULY (KPL) - The Lao government has granted a land concession to a Sweden company Stora Enso Lao Plantation AB for its industrial tree plantation project in Ta-oy district, Saravane province.
The government made it decision to grant a land concession to the company after the company was successful in experimenting on planting industrial trees in the district.
Over three million US dollars has been invested in the three-year tree plantation experiment.
An agreement on the land concession was signed here last Thursday between Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment, Mr. Thongmy Phommysay, and Vice Senior President of Stora Enso Lao Plantation AB, Mr. Weiner Jefor.
Mr. Weiner said that the company would be able to gain profit from the business in seven years.
It is expected that around 2,000 families will be employed by the company.
Mr. Weiner added that his company was going to propose the government provide it 1,200 ha of land in Sepon and Nong districts in Savannakhet province to plant industrial trees.
