PUBLIC & PRIVATE SECTOR MUST WORK TOGETHER FOR M'SIA'S SUCCESS, SAYS PM NAJIB

KUALA LUMPUR, July 20 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak
reiterated that a combined and cumulative effort from the public and private sector will ensure Malaysia's success towards achieving a high income economy.

He said the responsibility for economic transformation was not the
government's alone.

The viability of the nation as an achieving society is a combined and
cumulative effort of all stakeholders and sectors, encompassing the public and
private sectors," he said in a speech after being conferred an honorary
fellowship by the Management Institute of Malaysia (MIM) here Monday night.

"In other words, performing public sector is a necessary and pre-requisite
condition for a highly performing private sector," he added.

Najib said Malaysia’s future economic performance and its ability to
sustain its growth trajectory over a period of time very much depended on how it
can become globally competitive.

He said it was a priority to enhance Malaysia’s competitiveness vis-à-vis
the region and the rest of the world.

The prime minister said one way for Malaysia to move forward in an era of
increasing globalisation will be by enhancing the managerial traits found
in the people at every level of our socciety.

The Honorary Fellowship is accorded to meritorious individuals for their
contribution and services to management.

Todate, only 14 individuals have received the award.

Among them were a ruler, five prime ministers, two deputy prime ministers, a
governor of bank negara (central bank), a lord president of the judiciary, a
royal professor and an economic advisor to three prime ministers.

At the event, Najib also launched MIM's Talent Management and Transformation
Leadership Centre.
