GLOBALISATION, SOCIOECONOMIC ISSUE TO TAKE CENTRE STAGE AT GMUN 2010
PUTRAJAYA, July 22 (Bernama) -- Globalisation, socio-economic and cultural
issues will take centre stage at the Global Model United Nations 2010 (GMUN
2010) assembly to be hosted by Malaysia next month.
The five-day conference, which involves 1,000 youths from United Nations
member countries, will be held at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) in Kuala
Lumpur from Aug 14.
The Youth and Sports Ministry Under Secretary for International Division,
Azlina Fadzlon Mohd Amin, said the participants, aged between 18 and 24,
consisted of college and university students as well as members of youth
associations from 192 UN member countries.
Malaysia would be represented by 50 participants, Azlina Fadzlon told
Bernama.
This is the second GMUN assembly after the inaugural assembly in Geneva in
August last year.
The assembly, themed "Towards an Alliance of Civilisations: Bridging
Cultures to Achieve Peace and Development" is aimed at increasing the awareness
among the youth on the roles played by the UN in the world arena.
Azlina Fadzlon said the assembly also served as a platform for the younger
generation to voice out and offer alternative solutions to the issues discussed
at the UN General Assembly.
The delegates will pass a resolution at the end of the assembly, which will
be tabled to the President of the UN General Assembly.
