MALAYSIA AMONG KEY RECIPIENT OF GREENFIELD INVESTMENT

KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is among the key recipient of
greenfield investment such as wind turbines, solar panels and bio-diesel
plants, said the United Nation's Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

Developing economies are becoming increasingly popular investment
destinations in this industry, attracting more projects than developed economies
over the past two years.

Nearly half of the 806 reported investments between 2003 and 2009 were in
developing countries, over 85 per cent of which involved Latin American
transnational corporations, UNCTAD said in its World Investment Report 2010.

"Investments are occurring in a number of developing countries with
Algeria, Argentina, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Libya, Malaysia, Mexico,
Mozambique, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, Tanzania and Vietnam among the
key recipients," it said.

The report cited Malaysia's effort in adjusting its National Automotive
Policy as a tool which has availed opportunities for foreign automakers to
invest in the production of hybrid and electric vehicles.
