M'SIAN EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR BECOMES FIRST ASIAN TO LEAD CHARTERED SURVEYORS' BODY
KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 (Bernama) -- Ong See Lian, Executive Director of Davis
Langdon & Seah (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, became the first Asian president-elect of
RICS or Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors for the 2010-2011 term and
president for 2011-2012, it was announced Friday.
Set up 140 years ago, RICS has 140,000 members globally and represents,
regulates and promotes the work of property professionals throughout 122
countries. It is also regarded as the leading global professional institution on
land, property and construction.
With more than 35 years of working experience in the public and private
sectors of the construction industry, Ong had graduated from the University of
Reading, UK with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree.
Ong is also a Fellow of both RICS and the Institution of Surveyors Malaysia
(ISM) and is currently the Chairman of RICS Asia.
On his election by the RICS governing council, he said he would work closely
with the presidential team and RICS regional offices in Asia to ensure that RICS
would be the mark of property professionalism worldwide and the "gold standard"
in property expertise.
"As global economy appears to have turned the corner with Asia taking the
lead in its recovery, we must ensure that the profession has the capacity to
take advantage of the inevitable upturn as it is happening now," he said in a
statement Friday.
