Asked about his comments Thursday on the threat of a
26/11-type attack in the region to destabilise the Indo-Pak
relations, Mullen said Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) was linking up
with several other terror groups in the region and that he had
always believed that there was a potential of Mumbai-style
attack.
He said in the US' interaction with India, the two sides
had always explored the means to prevent such a terror attack
from happening again.
The US Admiral expressed his appreciation of the
restraint exhibited by the Indian leadership after the Mumbai
attacks that had the potential to bring the two nuclear powers
in the region closer to conflict.
He said the al-Qaeda, the Taliban and other outfits in
the region were working closely and that was a trend in recent
years.
"There are also increasing number of terror organisations
with global aspirations and desire to execute attacks far away
from where they originally started and LeT is certainly in
that category...that is why we have to work closely with each
other as well as with Pakistan," he said. PTI NCB
