M'SIAN TEAM EMERGES SECOND IN 2010 WCOPA PARADE COMPETITION

KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 (Bernama) -- The 13-member Malaysian team came out second
in the parade competition of the opening ceremony of the 2010 World Championships
of Performing Arts (WCOPA) held in Los Angeles earlier this week.

Performing under the theme of "1Malaysia", they were among more than 40 national
teams taking part in the annual competition, said the Deputy Secretary-General
of the Ministry of Information, Communication and Culture, Mohammad Mohd Daud.

The Malaysian team also received loud cheers from the spectators, he said in a
statement here Friday.

The competition, which began in 1997, is aimed at finding the best aspiring
performing artistes in the world and the Malaysian team took part in a number of
categories, including dancing and singing, this year.

Malaysia won 59 medals at last year's competition, also dubbed as the "Olympics
for performing arts talent".
