POLICE FOIL ATTEMPT TO SMUGGLE SYABU IN UNDERWEAR



SHAH ALAM (Selangor, Malaysia), July 24 (Bernama) -- A 22 year-old Iranian who
tried to smuggle syabu in his underwear was arrested by police at KL
International Airport (KLIA) Thursday night.

Selangor narcotics CID chief ACP Nordin Kadir said the suspect was arrested
together with two other Iranians aged 26 and 27 years-old who just arrived from
Iran at 11pm Thursday night.

"Six packets of syabu weighing 1.13kg were found in the front portion of three
layers of underwear. Four packets of syabu weighing 3.7kg were found hidden in
two bagagges carried by the other suspects.

"Police seized the syabu worth about RM1.21 million and an assortment of
currencies," he told a press conference here Friday.

Nordin said two supects came here for the first time while the 26 year-old
suspect had entered Malaysia three times.

The three suspects had bought return tickets and were scheduled to return to
Iran on July 27.

Meanwhile, another raid at 11pm on Wednesday (July 21) led to the arrest of two
Iranians and seizure of syabu worth RM330,000.

"The syabu weighing 1.3kg was found hidden under the insolve of shoes worn by
the two suspects. Police also seized foreign currencies from them."

Nordin said all the suspects were arrested under Section 39B of Dangerous Drugs
Act (DDA) 1952 which provides for the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

He also urged the public to give information on five Malaysians believed
involved with trafficking drugs in Kajang district in Selangor state as warrants
of arrest had been issued under DDA.

They are Yeap Shuen Pheow,40, of Kajang, Tang Lian Hong,37,of Jalan Kuchai Lama,
Petaling Jaya, Soh Shyn Giin,37, of Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, Wong Kam Seng, 29, of
Kajang dan Tan Keat Leong, 23, of Alor Setar, Kedah state.
