Fake Nokia hand phones seized

(KPL) Police officers and officers of the Trademark Inspection Committee seized 63 imitation Nokia hand phones on 18 July.

They were seized from mobile dealers, retailed shops, distributors and wholesalers in all the districts of Vientiane capital, but most of them were seized from the duty-free outlets at the Friendship Bridge, Talat Sao Mall and the Chinese market.

A police officer said that the confiscation exercise was carried out to protect consumers from being deceived by counterfeiters.

"The seized hand phones will be destroyed," said a police officer.

It is against the law to sell any counterfeit product in Laos and this is based on the Notice No 529, 4 April 2008, another police officer added. The officer also said that they had been actively inspecting and monitoring the situation and such actions have reduced the number of imitation Nokia handphones at various outlets.

The action of the police shows that the Lao government is paying attention to protecting the copyright and intellectual properties of investors andupholding the interests of consumers, said a police officer.
