Phongsaly governor visits Samphanh district to boost development village cluster building
(KPL) Mr. Khamsane Souvong, member of the Party Central Committee andGovernor of Phongsaly province, and his entourage visited the district of Samphanh to boost the development village cluster building, early this month.
Mr. Khamsane was warmly welcomed by Mr Pheng Bounthavong, acting chief of the district, and was briefed on the socio-economic development of the district for the first six months of this year. During the briefing, he also touched on the political, economic, cultural, social aspects, national defence and security of the district.
Mr. Khamsane, who also spoke to this meeting, gave advice on the implementation of the district's socio-economic development plan with a focus on foodstuff production.
The focus is part of the country's drive for self-sufficiency.
The governor of this northernmost province urged the authorities to encourage local people to give up the destructive practices of slash-and-burn cultivation and to switch to regular jobs as this will enablethem to attain a higher standard of living.
