`Counterterrorism agreement sign of close Indo-US ties`

Washington, July 24 (PTI) The Indo-US Counterterrorism
Cooperation Initiative is a sign of close and effective ties
between the two largest democracies in the world, a senior US
official has said.
"This signing is the latest evidence of the close and
effective cooperation efforts between the United States and
India on counter-terrorism, information sharing and capacity
building," State Department spokesman P J Crowley told
reporters at his daily news briefing.
The State Department official was commenting of the
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by US Ambassador to
India Timothy J Roemer and Indian Home Secretary G K Pillai in
New Delhi Friday.
The MoU is part of the Indo-US efforts to redouble
collective efforts to deal effectively with terrorism, while
protecting common ideals and shared values.
In pursuit of this shared objective, the agreement
establishes specific areas where the two countries will work
together to expand collaboration on counter-terrorism, such as
transportation and border security, money laundering and
terrorist financing and mega-city policing, the US Embassy in
India said.
"In the coming days and months there will be even
closer information sharing and collaborative efforts on issues
ranging from bomb blast investigations and major event
security to mega-city policing, cyber security and border
security," Roemer said. PTI
