Vientiane: Agro export increased by 9 per cent

VIENTIANE 23 JULY (KPL) - Vientiane Capital’s export of agricultural products and produce in the first nine months has increased by 9.70% compared to the same period last year, said an official.
Head of the Vientiane Capital Agriculture and Forestry Service, Mr. Ladsanivong Amarathithada, said last week that the agro-export in the first nine months of 2009-2010 fiscal year was valued at US$4.4 million, accounting for 17.6 % of the gross domestic product (GDP) of the Capital.
The agro products and produce exports included 81 tonnes of vegetables, 552 tonnes of industrial crops, 446 tonnes of rice, over 10 tonnes of herbs, 6,903 metric tonnes of wood-based products, 10.93 tonnes of flour, 10.6 tonnes of non-timber forest products and 611 tonnes of handicrafts.
The Vientiane Capital Agriculture and Forestry Service organised a trade fair “Week of Agricultural Products” from 22 to 28 July at the Lao ITECC.
The event had 44 booths featuring organic fertilisers, tree saplings, veterinary service, wood-based products, animal products, agricultural machinery, garment and consumer goods.
Present at the opening ceremony of the trade fair were Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce, Mr. Nam Viyaketh, Vientiane’s Vice Mayor, Mr. Anoupharb Tounalom, and relevant officials.
