Zillur for duty-free market access of all products from LDCs
DHAKA, Bangladesh, July 23 (BSS) - Commerce Adviser of Bangladesh Caretaker Government Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman has said duty-free, quota-free market access of all products from all Least Develop Countries (LDCs) to including Bangladesh should be ensured and the 'rules of origin' needs to be simplified.
"Duty-free quota-free market access without simplifying the preferential rules of origin will not bring any benefit to LDC exporters," he said while speaking at the mini- ministerial meeting of World Trade Organisation (WTO) in Geneva, a messagereceived from Geneva said here today.
WTO Director General Pascal Lamy has invited ministers from around 35 the key countries to hold the meeting from July 21 to24 in a bid to break the impasse of Doha Round of negotiation.
Commerce Adviser said the LDCs want better market access for the products and service providers in line with the spirit of theWTO principles.
"We therefore, expects positive initiatives from our trading partners, who are fortunately enough to be economically developedthan us," he said.
Dr Zillur said the multilateral trading system will create a fair play ground for all trading partners and bring benefit inthe global trading system.
"We all are eagerly waiting for a successful conclusion of the Doha Round of negotiation for upholding the image of themultilateral trading system," he said.
He welcomed the WTO's initiative of setting up the mechanism of Enhanced Integrated Framework and Aid for Trade for LDCs and expressed hoped that the Doha Round of negotiations would beconcluded successfully by the end of this year.
"The LDC Group reiterates its commitment to the multilateral trade system, and we are ready to contribute to this round toensure that the development agenda is achieved," he said.
