CORPORATE CITIZENS URGED TO PLAY MORE ACTIVE ROLE IN POVERTY ERADICATION
KUALA LUMPUR, July 27 (Bernama) -- Corporate citizens can play a more active role in helping the government eradicate hardcore poverty in the country through corporate social responsibility initiatives, said the prime minister's wife Rosmah Mansor.
She said through the help rendered, be it in the form of knowledge or
material, it would at least help orphans and the less fortunate seek education
and skills to come out of the poverty trap.
"I believe by instilling a love for knowledge and education, they will be
able to change the fortunes of their families in future.
"This has been proven as many of them have gone on to chase their dreams of
attaining higher education and equipped themselves with degrees for a brighter
future," she said when launching Utusan Melayu Veterans Club's humanitarian fund
here Monday night.
Rosmah said she hoped the club's noble effort to help orphans to gain an
education through the fund would receive support from the corporate world.
She added that such an effort was in line with the 1Malaysia concept which
wanted to ensure each and every Malaysian child received an education to secure
his or her future.
