CBI to interrogate Shah in jail between July 28 and 30
Ahmedabad, July 26 (PTI) A local court Monday granted
permission to CBI to interrogate former western Indian state
Gujarat minister Amit Shah in Sabarmati jail between July 28
and 30 in connection with the Soharabuddin Sheikh fake
encounter case.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate A I Raval granted
the permission to Central Bureau of Investigation on its
application to interrogate Shah inside the jail premises
itself.
The court has directed that Shah's interrogation
should be video recorded and directed jail authorities to make
necessary arrangements for it.
The court has also asked CBI to provide the charge
sheet to Shah before the interrogation starts.
Ram Jethmalani, representing Shah, earlier had told
the court that they have no problem with the interrogation of
Shah but demanded that the entire questioning should be
recorded.
He also demanded that the CBI should provide them a
copy of charge sheet which was not made available to them.
The CBI agreed to meet both the demands.
Shah, facing murder and extortion charges in the fake
encounter case, was arrested Sunday and sent to judicial
custody till August 7.
46-year-old Shah, who resigned from the Narendra Modi
government on Saturday after he was declared an accused in the
charge sheet filed in Sohrabuddin fake encounter case, turned
up at the Bhartiya Janta Party office in Ahmedabad on Sunday,
where he denied all the charges against him.
He then drove to the Gandhinagar office of CBI and
surrendered before the agency which arrested him.
The charge sheet has named Shah as a key accused along
with Indian Police Service officers D G Vanzara, Rajkumar
Pandian, M N Dinesh and Abhay Chudasama. In all, 15 accused
have been named.
According to the charge sheet, it was Shah who had
entrusted the task of eliminating Sohrabuddin, an alleged
gangster, to Vanzara, Pandia and Chudasama in 2007. PTI PB
