UAE's Red Crescent continues relief operations in China's quake-affected areas
Abu Dhabi, July 23, 208 (WAM) - The Red Crescent Authority (RCA) of the United Arab Emirates has plans in place to distribute emergency aid to victims of the May 12 earthquake which hit China's Sichuan Province and its neighbouring region.
The humanitarian effort which is being made incoordination with the embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Beijing is part of RCA's humanitarian responsibility towards victims of natural disasters, according to Secretary General of RCA Saleh Al-Taei.
RCA, he added, has transferred funds to procure emergency materials from Chinese local markets in coordination with China's Red Cross. Two aircraft carrying 80 tonnes of relief material were previously dispatched to Sichuan's most affected villages. UAE Ambassador to China Mohammed Rashid Al-But said Sheikh Khalifa's donation of US$50 million to help out victims of the devastating quake is yet another gesture by the UAE's humanitariansupport to Chinese people.
