MALAYSIA-INDONESIA FRIENDSHIP SWIM ACROSS COWIE BAY




TAWAU, Malaysia, Aug 2 (Bernama) -- An Indonesian national will undertake a
Malaysia-Indonesia solo friendship swim across Cowie Bay Tuesday in conjunction
with Indonesia's 65th Independence Day.

A spokesman of the Indonesian Consul's Office here, W.R. Hendro, said Ibrahim
Rusli from Tarakan, would begin the swim from Sungai Nyamuk, Indonesia, in Pulau
Sebatik at 10am and was expected to arrive at Batu-Batu, Malaysia, at 1pm.

"This is an initiative to strengthen friendly ties between Indonesia and
Malaysia. The swim is also a campaign for the communities of the two countries
to maintain the cleanliness of our sea," he told Bernama, here Monday.

Hendro said the approximately eight-kilometre solo swim by Ibrahim, 45, an
Indonesian civil servant, was organised with the cooperation of the Malaysian
authorities.

Ibrahim's arrival at Batu-Batu Tuesday is expected to be welcomed by East
Malaysia state of Sabah's Tawau Municipal Council President Ismail Mayakub.
