MORE MEDICAL GRADUATES SERVING UNDER HEALTH MINISTRY
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 (Bernama) -- The number of medical graduates serving under
the Health Ministry is expected to increase to 3,793 this year compared to 3,702
last year and 1,124 in 2006, the Senate was told Monday.
The number of medical officers in the public sector who resigned from their job
was 360 a year on the average since 2005, Deputy Health Minister Rosnah Abdul
Rashid Shirlin said in reply to Senator Pau Chiong Ung.
Rosnah said the ministry had no statistics of those who quit their job to take
employment abroad because they normally did not state reasons for their
resignation.
Nonetheless, she said, the ministry would strive to retain officers in
government service, including through numerous initiatives such as increasing
the number of medical, dentistry and pharmacy graduates.
This had resulted in an increase in the number of personnel in these fields, she
added.
For dentistry, the number of graduates was expected to increase to 210 this year
from 149 in 2008 while for pharmacist, the number would be 768 this year
compared to 719 in 2008.
She said the ministry was also providing career development opportunities for
these officers and improving their incentives and allowances.
