Sensex opens 86 pts higher on global cues

Mumbai, Aug 3 (PTI) The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark
Sensex Tuesday opened 86 points higher on buying by foreign
funds driven by firming global trends.
The 30-share index rose by 86.24 points, or 0.47 per
cent, to 18,167.45 points. Ther index had gained 212.92 points
in the previous trading session.
All the sectoral indices were trading in the positive
zone with gains up to 0.62 per cent.
The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty shot
up by 27.55 points, or 0.50 per cent, to 5,459.20 points.
Brokers said trading sentiments were boosted by firming
trends on the Asian bourses following overnight gains on the
US market on strong data and better-than-expected earnings by
European banks.
Auto sector stocks continued their winning streak on the
back of strong sale numbers in July. Hero Honda gained 0.25
per cent to Rs 1,830, Maruti Suzuki by 0.60 per cent to Rs
1,215.65, Tata Motors by 0.14 per cent to Rs 848.75 and
Mahindra and Mahindra by 0.09 per cent to Rs 661.
Among other gainers, Reliance Industries was up by 0.19
per cent to Rs 1,016.50, State Bank of India by 0.07 per cent
to Rs 2,583, ICICI Bank by 1.44 per cent to Rs 953.25, BHEL
by 0.21 per cent to Rs 2,457.70, Hindalco by 0.18 per cent to
Rs 164.65 and Tata Steel by 0.17 per cent to Rs 548.10.
The Hong Kong's Hang Seng index was up by 0.73 per cent,
while Japan's Nikkei gained 1.53 per cent. The US Dow Jones
Industrial Average ended 1.99 per cent higher in Monday's
